10 Countries with the world’s fastest mobile internet speeds

Since we live in a technologically advanced culture where connectivity is essential, fast and dependable mobile internet has become essential to our daily lives. Fast and reliable mobile internet has become necessary for everything from streaming high-definition movies to conducting business while travelling and even just staying in contact with loved ones.

The SpeedtestGlobal Index measures the latest mobile internet speeds in 190 different countries. Using the most recent data available, which was gathered in February 2024, we have examined which countries have the quickest internet connections as well as which cellular firms are performing the best in each of them.

1. Qatar

Qatar now has the fastest mobile internet download median speed in the world, at 313.30 Mbps. Upload speeds are 27.53 Mbps (megabits per second) with a 19 ms latency.

In Qatar, there are both 4G and 5G networks operational; the country's first 5G introduction was made by mobile provider Ooredoo. Ooredoo and Vodafone are the only mobile service providers available in Qatar. Ooredoo, one of the largest mobile telecommunications companies globally, is headquartered in Doha and has over 121 million users. The corporation operates in twelve countries, mostly in the Middle East, North Africa, and Southeast Asia.

2. United Arab Emirates

With median upload and download speeds of 26.25 Mbps and 19 ms, respectively, and latency of 296.00 Mbps, the UAE has the second-fastest mobile internet in the globe.

The United Arab Emirates is home to two main network providers: du, based in Dubai, and Etisalat, also known as e&, situated in Abu Dhabi. Opensignal claims that Etisalat routinely provides the fastest speeds. It is the most reputable network provider in the United Arab Emirates, having been in operation since 1976. It is the world's eighteenth-largest network provider by number of subscribers. The other major network provider in the UAE, du, has been operating since 2007. It started offering 5G service in the United Arab Emirates in 2019.

3. Kuwait

At a latency of 18 ms, Kuwait currently has the third-fastest mobile internet in the world, with median download and upload speeds of 288.64 and 23.73 Mbps, respectively.

In Kuwait, there are numerous well-known mobile carriers. Ooredoo Kuwait, Zain, and STC are the three major participants. Ooredoo is rated as the most dependable, Zain as the most coverage-rich, and stc as the most 5G-available in the most recent Opensignal mobile experience research.

Zain is the telecom firm with the longest history, having launched in 1983. Its headquarters are in Kuwait and it operates in seven Middle Eastern countries with 52 million active users.

4. Iceland

Iceland boasts the fourth-fastest mobile internet connections in the world, with median download speeds of 158.32 Mbps, upload rates of 20.22 Mbps, and latency of 17 ms.

Of Iceland's three main mobile operators, Siminn has the biggest market share at 34.5%. Furthermore, Vodafone and Nova have significant market shares in the country. With 99% of Iceland's population covered, Siminn offers some of the best national coverage available.

5. South Korea

South Korea has the fifth-fastest mobile internet speeds worldwide. The median download speed is 156.23 Mbps with upload rates of 17.68 Mbps and a latency of 30 ms.

The three mobile operators in South Korea are KT, SKT, and LGT. Instead of using the global standard for mobile phones (GSM), the network utilised in South Korea is based on code division multiple access (CDMA). This suggests that every device has a unique identifier in order to send and receive data. A SIM card is used by the most popular technology, GSM, to verify each device. CDMA is praised for its better coverage and quality, even if GSM is preferred for its convenience of use when travelling and data roaming. GSM has been the recognised standard since 1987 across Europe.

6. Denmark

Danish mobile internet speeds are sixth in the world. Denmark's typical download speeds are 145.75 Mbps, with an upload speed of 19.27 Mbps and a latency of 19 ms.

There are many mobile providers in Denmark. Opensignal rates Telia as having the quickest download speed, 3 as having the fastest 5G upload speed, TDC as having the best coverage, and Telenor as having the most dependable quality. TDC is the largest telecom company in Denmark, and its main office is in the country's capital.

7. China

China has the seventh-fastest mobile internet speeds in the world, with a latency of 30 ms, median download and upload speeds of 143.73 Mbps and 27.51 Mbps, respectively.

It has roughly 60% of the market in China; the remaining 20% are divided between Unicom and Telecom. All three operators are owned and under the authority of the People's Republic of China government.

8. Netherland

The Netherlands boasts the eighth-fastest mobile internet speeds in the world, with median download speeds of 135.52 Mbps, upload rates of 19.80 Mbps, and latency of 22 ms.

9. United States
